Zone Membership Explained: How to Turn One-Time Players into Regulars

There's a version of laser tag where every person who walks through your door is a stranger. They play, they leave, and you have no idea who they were, whether they had a good time, or whether they'll ever come back.

Zone Membership is the antidote to that. Here's how it works, what players get from it, and more importantly, what operators get from it.

What Is Zone Membership?

Zone Membership is a global NFC-based player identity system built into the O-Zone platform. Every Zone venue worldwide runs on the same membership infrastructure, which means a player's profile, stats, and achievements travel with them whether they're playing in Auckland, Berlin, or Dubai.

It's part of what Zone describes as "immersive social laser tag", a system that connects the physical game to an ongoing, trackable player identity, in the same way that online games give players persistent profiles and progression.

How Players Sign Up

The sign-up process is deliberately frictionless. Players tap or scan at a membership kiosk, or scan the QR on the back of the card and enter three fields: name, date of birth, and email. That's it, five clicks and they're registered.

From there, they can optionally add more information to their profile, upload a photo or choose an avatar, and set an alias (their in-game display name on scoreboards and phasers). If a player is under 13, auto-gating rules apply. For venues in the EU, appropriate compliance steps are built into the flow.

If a membership account isn't registered within a short window, or if an email bounces, the record is automatically cleaned up. Your database stays accurate without manual maintenance.

What Players Get

Zone Membership gives players a genuine reason to care about every game they play:

Persistent stats and history.
Every game a player has ever played with their membership card is recorded. Hits landed, accuracy, games played, teams played on, results, all of it is accessible through the player portal at mygameinfo.com.

Achievements and rankings.
There are hundreds of achievements in the system, from beginner milestones to hard-won competitive badges. Players climb a rank system both locally (at your specific venue) and globally (across all Zone venues worldwide). The Top 100 leaderboard compares players across the entire Zone network.

Social connectivity.
Players can check their friends' stats, compare results after a shared session, download then share their scores and results from either membership or the QR score card interface. There's a social layer built into the platform that keeps players engaged between visits.

In-game identity.
When a player logs in with their membership card, their alias and avatar appear on the scoreboards during the game and on their phaser screen. For regular players, this personalisation is a meaningful part of the experience.

What Operators Get

The player-facing features are genuinely good. But from an operator's perspective, the membership system is primarily a marketing and retention infrastructure.

Email addresses.
Every registered member has opted in with a verified email address. At scale, this is one of the most valuable marketing assets you can build. Operators who make membership sign-up standard for every visitor, not just regulars, build large, high-quality email lists that compound over time.

Visit frequency data.
O-Zone records how often members return and when they last visited. This lets you identify loyal customers, lapsing customers, and everything in between and respond to each segment with appropriate marketing.

Date of birth data.
This unlocks one of the most effective automated marketing tactics available: the birthday pre-emption email. Send a party booking prompt to members three months before their birthday, and you're reaching them at exactly the right moment in their planning cycle.

Player demographics.
Understanding who is actually playing at your venue, age ranges, gender, visit patterns, helps you make smarter decisions about programming, game modes, pricing, and marketing.

Integration with other systems.
Zone Membership connects to booking platforms, arcade card systems like Intercard (for redemption and loyalty linking), and the Zone API for custom CRM integration. Your membership data doesn't have to live in a silo, it can feed into your broader venue technology stack.

Cross-Venue: The Global Network

One of the more distinctive features of Zone Membership is that it genuinely works globally. A player with a Zone Membership card can use it at any Zone venue in the world. Their stats follow them. Their rank follows them.

For venues in tourist-heavy markets, this is a meaningful selling point. An international visitor who already has a Zone card doesn't have to re-register, they tap in and their history is right there. It creates continuity across what would otherwise be a disconnected series of one-off visits.

The Bottom Line

Zone Membership isn't a loyalty punch card. It's a proper, feature-rich player identity system that happens to also be your most powerful marketing tool. Operators who treat it as standard operating procedure, not an optional add-on, consistently report better retention, more repeat visits, and a more engaged customer base.

Start collecting. Every game is an opportunity to add to your database. The compound effect over months and years is significant.
