Well, what can I say about Zone’s recent attendance at Fun Asia Expo? This was the first time Zone had attended this event, and it was the little details the organisers took care of that made the experience such a great one. From assisting with the steps for getting our visas, to making sure our booth was stocked with bottled water and candy, to say nothing of the opening ceremony featuring a musical number celebrating the regions of Indonesia, complete with dancers in panda costumes, a balloon popping ceremony and a confetti cannon, the stage was set for a successful show and it really did deliver.
The Zone Sales Team had been excited to have Fun Asia Expo on our trade show calendar for a while, so when it finally came time to pack our suitcases chock full of Laser Tag gear (to the absolute limit of our luggage allowances) we’d done our research and were ready for all the surprises Jakarta could throw at us.
Explaining to the customs official at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta airport that the equipment in my suitcase was for ‘Laser Tag. You know, pew-pew’ and his answering knowing smile set the tone for the reaction our gear got at the show, too. As the only Laser Tag company at Fun Asia Expo, our booth attracted savvy buyers stopping by to have a chat and get hands on with our flagship Laser Tag system Helios3, and our fun-size, phaser only system Begeara3. Buyers at the show were open, friendly and excited by our systems. Many walked away with our product portfolio tucked away inside their tote bag, alongside some of our merch which I’m certain has never been more popular at a trade event!
In my role, I talk to a lot of people. Over email, phone, video call, Whatsapp, Wechat... it's a chatty business! But my absolute favourite customer interaction is on a trade show floor. Nothing beats the buzz of the first day of a trade show. You’ve tested the equipment, stocked the business cards and flyers, spruced up the booth and then the flurry of delegates arrive, lock eyes with you and you step out and say ‘Hi, wanna talk about Laser Tag?’
I learn a lot from these impromptu meetings at the booth. Maybe they stopped because they’ve seen the colourful blinking lights on the packs or seen the marketing videos of kids tagging each other inside a maze - all extremely cool reasons to stop by and I love to go down that curiosity path with them. But by far the most exciting reason for someone to come and chat with me is they’ve walked by the booth and had a Eureka moment about what Laser Tag could do for their business. Chatting through a customer’s vision while it’s fresh is so interesting and full of possibility. The best ‘yes, and’ interactions can happen in this space. It’s that passion that carries the best projects all the way to fruition.
So, what did I learn from my time in Jakarta? Jakarta traffic is hardcore and anyone who drives in Jakarta is an absolute road warrior. Respect, Mad Max could never! The best Gado-gado can be found in a little grandma-owned shop in Menteng with a resident cat overseeing all. Lastly and importantly, buyers throughout Indonesia and SE Asia made their way to Fun Asia Expo expecting to see entertainment products that drive revenue and delight their guests, and if they visited the Zone booth, came away understanding they can achieve both with the addition of Laser Tag.
Drop me a note and let’s talk about what Laser Tag could do for your business, or if you want the name of that Gado-gado shop for your next trip to Jakarta!
